Only one pickup was able to attain the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's highest safety ratings this year, acing every test it was put through, and earning an IIHS Top Safety Pick. That truck was the humble Ford F-150.
There had certainly been some squabbling among truck lovers since Ford changed the F-150's body from steel to aluminum. Competitors jumped on the chance to make aluminum sound weak, and unsafe. Yet the most stringent tests of crash-worthiness in North America have shown the F-150 stands ahead of the pack -- preventing injuries in small-overlap collisions where other trucks failed.
